Koesister Bites inspired by Cape Malay koesisters, a heritage food that originated in the 17th century when Dutch colonists brought Southeast Asian slaves and exiles to the Cape.

The koesister evolved over the years, merging with local African and European influences. Cape Malay slaves would take home leftover dough from their Dutch colonial masters and add spices like aniseed and naartjie peels.

Today koesisters are a favorite Sunday morning breakfast treat in homes across the Cape.
